Come ride in Lisbon…

with Maine’s premier motorcycle educators.

This is Midcoast Maine’s motorcycle school! From Belfast to Brunswick, Lewiston to Freeport – this is the best place to learn to ride this season.

The BRC is designed primarily for those who have limited or no riding experience, or for those who have been away from riding for a number of years.  The course includes an on-line pre-course session (Level 1 knowledge), classroom instruction (Level 2 knowledge), and riding skills exercises (Level 1 & 2 on motorcycle skills). It begins with the basics of controls, turning, shifting and stopping.

After registration, a student will receive an e-mailed confirmation package at their e-mail address on the registration form.  The package will contain a confirmation letter, a coupon pass code for the MSF Basic eCourse, an indemnification waiver and directions to the training site.  STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE MSF BASIC eCOURSE, PRINT THE END OF COURSE CERTIFICATE,  AND BRING IT WITH YOU TO THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.  Minor students must also have a parent signature on the indemnification waiver.

Professionally trained RiderCoaches lead the classroom sessions and coach riders in a controlled riding area.  Since the course involves riding skill development, applicants must be able to ride a bicycle. If you have not ridden a bicycle in a long time, it would help to do so prior to the start of the BRC, to assist with balance and hand-eye coordination.

We provide the motorcycle and handbook for the course.  You should bring your own helmet (it must be DOT approved).  On the first day of class, you MUST HAVE in your possession a valid driver’s license or permit, an MSF Basic eCourse Completion Certificate and signed indemnification waiver.  For riding, you will need long sleeve shirt, sturdy pants, full-fingered gloves, eye protection, sturdy over the ankle footwear, and rain gear if the weather is threatening.

It is also recommended that you bring hydration (water/gatorade) and snacks as some of our sites do not have services readily available.

You must be at least 16 years of age to enroll.  If you are 16 years of age but under 18 years of age, a parent/guardian or legal guardian must sign the required waiver form.

In order to successfully complete the course, you must, complete the MSF Basic eCourse, attend all classroom sessions, attend all riding sessions, and pass a motorcycle operator skill tests and pass a 50 question knowledge test.

By taking this course you may be eligible for an insurance discount. Check with your insurance company to verify.  Successful completion of the Basic Riders Course will also provide you a waiver from further evaluation when applying for a Maine “L” endorsement on your driver’s license.

About the Basic RiderCourse, from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation:

The MSF Basic RiderCourse is designed for beginning riders of all ages. More than 7 million motorcyclists nationwide have graduated from a RiderCourse since 1974. Five hours of classroom-style instruction prepares you for ten hours of hands-on riding exercises in a controlled, off-street environment – typically, a paved parking lot. Motorcycles are provided free of charge for your use during the course. In the classroom, you’ll learn about the different types of motorcycles, layout and operation of the basic controls, and how to become a safer, more responsible rider. You’ll then move to the riding range where your MSF-certified RiderCoach will guide you through the basic skills of straight-line riding, stopping, shifting, and turning, gradually progressing to swerving and emergency braking.

Amazing class I went through them last year when I turned 18, the team explains everything very well and makes sure you get the most out of the class from class room work to on the course work. I would recommend this to friends and family.
